This is my Tolkien Roadbug Spinning Wheel, purchased from The Woolery (awsome service!!), made by The Merlin Tree.
I personalized this with a woodburning pen ($15 from Hobby Lobby). I found the graphics in the internet and sized them on a copier. Taped them in place with tracing paper beneath($3 at Hobby Lobby) and traced over the pictures with a ballpoint pen. Then removed the papers and traced over that with the woodburning pen.

From clockwise, Erwen's Evenstar, Gandalf's mark, White Tree of Gondor

This says "Suzanne the Spinner"

The footpedal has JRRTolkien's initials, and of course the wheel says:

"one ring to rule them all,

one ring to find them,

one ring to bring them all,

and in the darkness bind them."

9/17/10 Bought this kit ages ago (sign) this is work, a tangle mess of work! They’ve been sitting with all my sock yarn since this pattern intimidates me.

10/5/10 Rip it, rip it, rip it!! Got to the heel and couldn’t pull them on over my foot, tooooo tight! Starting over on size 5 needles. This is sitting in timeout! Bad, bad knitting.

10/20/10 cast on again…. we’ll see how she behaves this time.

11/22/10 Not loving this pattern, thinking I should have stuck with the gussett heel shown in the pattern (but I love my shortrow heels -she whined!) Anyway, now the heel does fit but sock is loose everywhere else, pooh! I’m NOT ripping this out again, just going to push on through and finish the darn thing!

Went to see 'DISPICABLE ME' and loved the scarf the Gru wears. In some pictures the scarf looks gray on dark gray, and in some it looks gray on black.

Got the gray Cascade yarn from my friend Paula and bought the black Cascade yarn from Blueball Mountain Spindle & Needlework in Elizabethtown, KY.

Follow color sequence through out -

Gray 20 rows/Black 10 rows

CO 30

Knit first 5 rows

6th row-k3, p across to last 3 stitches, k3.

7th row-knit across

Repeat row 6 & 7 till long enough.

Knit last 5 rows.

Bind off loosely

4/4/10 Spent last night winding into balls from skeins. Ready to cast on.

4/15/10 Finished the back.

4/23/10 Body finished, working on collar. The pattern never says anything at all about how to attach the collar.

4/25/10 Started the edging, OMG, this will never end.

5/8/10 Blocked cardi & collar, still trudging throught the edging ....

5/31/10 Sewed the edging onto the cardi last night, still knitting the edging for the sleeves and have to do the icord tie. SOOOO ready for this to be finished.

6/6/10 FINISHED!!!!

If I could give you any advise on this, it would be to knit the edge and when you think you are getting close to the length (mine was about 6 feet I think) start running life lines at the end of each chart repeat.

When you block the edging, which you must do, you'll get more length, and realize that now the edging is too long and you'll need to rip back.

Wish I had run the life lines myself.

8/18/09 I’m screwed! Found a mistake 25 rows back, and I’m only alternating LL every 10 & 20 rows. BUT I did keep my LL in for the begining of chart B….so I only have to rip out 50 rows. Because this mistake shifted the entire pattern out of wack and there is no ‘fudging’ this, CRAP!

9/23/09 made it to the half way point! YEAH!!! Must take break, gonna finish up some smaller stuff before I cast on for the second half. This is NOT for the faint of heart.

11/15/09The whole point of Kauni is the wonderful color change! Right? So I cast on this really cool scarf (after learning how to double knit on a pot holder) because this scarf is double knit and I just GOTTA have this scarf….anyway, the Kauni is rolling right along and then BANG! SPLICE! color doesn’t blend it just changes! I know you can see how the green is getting darker and then a straight line of lime green interupts it! I was so disappointed! Not enough to rip out and start over mind you…..

1/15/10 I just love this pattern, and this color change is beautiful!!! On my fourth pattern repeat. Only able to complete 5 pattern repeats.

1/20/10 FINISHED!!! I got to say that blocking made a world of difference in the drape of this scarf, the double knit fabric was too thick until I blocked it.

If I knit this again, and I may, I would used some washable wool blend, the ribbing just wouldn’t rib in this acrylic.

10/14/09 Cast on. Trying to learn the whole ‘double knitting’ thing. Got this great yarn and a really COOL scarf pattern that is double knitting ….. so…. gotta learn how first. I thought this would be a good intro project, and I’m glad I’m doing it, reading from the chart, on the flip side of the knitting is a TRIP! It’s like knitting in 3D, don’t know how else to describe it. This frog pattern called for cotton and I have some left over Encore from my Hanne vest, so I’m using it and not worried about ‘gauge.’ So, in other words, this pot holder is HUGH!!!

I’m not loving this and won’t make a second one in silk, I’ll make it in wool….I’ll find something else to do with the rest of the skein.

I added 6 stitches to waist band for a casing for elastic, I don’t like skirts without a waist band, and this pattern doesn’t have one….WTF? I will still have the opening with buttons at the waistband, but elastic will keep it in place. (NO wardrob malfunctions here!)

9/27/09 Sewed up the side seam, will sew the waistband tonight and insert the elastic, have to find buttons and then done! 9/30/09 Finished!

Aguona Laptop Bag by Knit Picks

Bought the kit from Knitpicks. Had trouble getting guage, knitting is very tight and still can only get 24 stitches to the 4” instead of the 26 recommended. I’m beginging to see why so many have posted about making this into a pillow instead of laptop bag….I’m thinking about a slite ‘felting’ of the bag, may help with the floats on the inside and will help with the extra inches.

6/4/09 - at the half way point!! Still large for my laptop, thinking of felt/fulling, if I do it inside out, may help with the floats…. 6/9/09 - almost done, still too large. If I had a sewing machine I’d sew it and cut the excess off, but I’m afraid my hand stitiches wouldn’t hold and the yarn would unravel. Still thinking of felt/full for this, my only reason to hesitate is the white/red combination, which will bleed into a lovely pink/red. When I finish, I’m going to swatch what’s left of the yarn and see how bad it bleed and felts….will keep you posted. OH yeah, and I’m doing an Icord bindoff.
6/9/09 the knitting is done, and have finished the swatch to try felting…just haven’t gotten around to it yet.
6/28/09 My friend Kim had a GREAT idea, since I had a laptop ‘sleeve’ already, just sew this bag over the sleeve….perfect! Takes up the extra space ‘cuse NO ONE can get gauge on this thing, adds padding for laptop safety-gotta have that, don’t have to worry about lining the bag since you know the laptop would snag all those floats in the inside no matter HOW good you are at it. YEAH!!

Then Starla (the owner) says…"oh did you see this made up with the Noro Kureyon Sock and Kidsilk Haze", and whips out a finished ruana in these incredible strips, and a photo of about 10 knitters wearing theirs. There’s always a bunch of knitters at this place working on something, it’s such a cool place, if I lived in Bowling Green, I’d live at this yarn shop. There was at least 8 women working on mitered scarves at 10 AM and the store had just opened. I know ‘cuse I was in the parking lot waiting for them to unlock the door! So long story short-I’m making a Ruana-photo’s to follow…

There I was cruising along through Ravelry, looking at the new patterns and projects that folks are working on. If I’m not knitting, I’m reading about knitting, looking at knitting, or thinking/wishing I was knitting. And I come across this little fellow, now I’m a huge Terry Pratchett fan, and if you don’t know about Discworld…well all I can say is "I’m sorry" I don’t have enough space here to explain why you SHOULD know about Discworld.
Long story short, I spot this little fellow, and post a comment on the designers page "I love Terry Pratchett, hope to see this pattern soon!"
Well, Sally Pointer sends me back a email, ‘want to test knit him?"
YES!!! I scream at my laptop!!! And RAN to my enormous stash of yarn (left over yarn from stash, 2ply instead of required 4py fingering weight. JaggerSpun Zephyr Wool-Silk 2/18 purchased at Sarah’s Yarn) and by the time I got back to my computer-well under 3 minutes- she had sent me the pattern and I had him started and finished by the next morning.

Thank goodness the Holidays are over!!! I'm beat!

I had a wonderful time, but I felt like I was on a knitting marathon. For a total, I knitted the following: 4 pairs of socks, 2 shawls, 2 scarfs, 1 vest, 3 hats, and 1 sweater. This lovely vest is for Nina, and as much as I tried, it wasn't finished in time, so she will get it when I get back to work.

The yarn is Scotian Silk and the pattern is Celtic Vest, both by Fleece Artist, but ordered from the very nice folks at Colorsong Yarn. The hardest part of this whole vest was picking out the color yarn I wanted, there is 42 colors...way too many!

While at my sisters for the holidays, I was able to finish my last holiday project (except for buttons). It was for me, so I didn't count it in the 'knitted gift.' The Favorite Cardigan from the wonderful book "custom knits" by Wendy Bernard. The yarn was JaggerSpun Zephyr from Sarah's Yarn.

This was tough, I fell in love with this sweater and was NOT paying attention to the description in the pattern that said "for the advanced knitter" but I managed to pull it off.

I found the stitch pattern and loved it and made some modification to a pattern in "Men Who Knit and the Dogs Who Love Them," towards the back of the book, can't remember the name, and of course I've shifted the library around so can't find the book at the moment.

This is a very easy FREE pattern, and I have more of the yarn-Lily Sugar'n Cream Confectionary Colors Twists, so I'll be making it again. After one washing the cotton yarn drew up about a inch in length so this very pretty vest now belongs to my friend Wanda, who is modeling it in the picture.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Knitting. There! I’ve said it. I have a problem, the first step is always admitting to your self that you have a problem. Is there a 12-step program for knitters? Enough! My obsession has always been those beautiful self-stripping yarns and how to match perfectly the strips on two separate feet. I love knitting my sock ‘toe up, two at once’ and being able to finish both socks at the same time. The trick has always been how to get the ball of yarn to tell us when we’re at the halfway point. I will admit to cheating….here’s how:
Years ago I purchased an "incredible sweater machine’ and I’ve found the perfect use for it, well, OK, it became a part of my OCD. My therapist says I’ve got to stop ‘justifying my actions.’ Anyway, take out the sweater machine, or whatever brand knitting machine you’ve got. Now cast on about 56-60 stitches with waste yarn and then start with your self-striping sock yarn. Add some more waste yarn and start then next ball of self-striping sock yarn (because you KNOW that you have at least 10 in the stash) that’s right keep going. Why not knit them all up while you got the knitting machine out and dusted off. Put about 5-10 rows of waste yarn between each section of good sock yarn and remove from the knitting machine. Now you have this HUGH scarf looking thing. Snip about half way though the section of waste yarn and unravel, separating the sections of sock yarn. You can now see the color rotation and exactly how many sections of the color strip you have in that ball of yarn. If you count 17 sections of yellow/red/green you know that you can start your toe at yellow and knit eight sections per sock. You can also snip and unravel to separate the scarf into two sections and knit your sock at the same time from the two, now separated scarves. Keep in mind, the scarf will only unravel in one direction, you will KNOW if your going from the wrong way because you’ll only get to unravel one row at a time before you have to untie the knot.
And that is my secret to these PERFECTLY matched heels….TA DA!!!!!

I've finished one sweater....and a pair of socks... and working on another sweater vest... and will try to post pictures this weekend.
But that's not what I want to talk about, I want to comment on THANKING. We as a knitting community take SO MUCH for granted. The hard work and time and expense that designers put into these wonderful patterns, and do we ever take a few minutes to ‘thank’ them? Now you know that if we find one single error, we hunt them down and point out their mistakes, bad mouth them as if we could have done the job perfectly, like any of us are perfect and never make mistakes. Those patterns are knitted, test knitted, over and over and things slip by, we are human. But my point is, do we ever hunt them down and say…”Hey, I loved making this, I get comments every time I wear it, everyone loves it, it was so cool to make”, etc… You know what I’m talking about. And with Ravelry, finding our favorite designers is easier then every. After I finished LL Swing Coat by Annie Modesitt I was able to email her and tell her what a wonderful pattern she had made. I wasn’t expecting to hear back from her, but the lady is a class act and replied to me.

So before I get off my soapbox, let me just say “THANK YOU” to all you wonderful designers who publish and share your work with the world.

An Affair to Remember

So after the RIPPING OUT my Kimono Swing Coat, I decided to order some Red to go with the Mushroom color when I re-knit it. The Teal just wasn't doing 'it' for me. SSSOOOOOOOO I used the Teal to make.......TA DA the fabUlas skirt 'An Affair to Remember' by Annie Modesitt in her book "Romantic Hand Knits."

I promise I'll post a better picture when it's finished! The color is lovely and there's just no sunshine here in Kentucky today / this month-it's January..."ain't no sunshine when she's gone...."

Couldn't help myself, I had to take a picture of this before I rip it out. The sleeves are, as you can see, about a foot too long. The back hem is also, about a foot too long. It looks more like a hugh frumpy housecoat.
